Call for participants

Danube Area Research Center (DAReC) is a non-governmental organization, with the main goals to educate young people interested in the research of Danube region, establishing partnerships with the civil society and academic communities and implementing projects. We are pleased to announce the official call for the Danube Winter School (DWS), designed in partnership with the European Danube Academy, the organizer of Danube Summer School in Ulm (DSS), which was the initial spark for organizing this school. The Danube Summer School 2016 will be the follow up event after Danube Winter School 2016.

Danube Winter School is developed with the aim to bring together young people of various nationalities and academic backgrounds from the Danube region to attend a diverse, versatile and academic program. During the 6 days you will spend with us, our lecturers will guide you through a variety of topics and themes, which are relevant, interesting and up-to-date. We believe you will enjoy the topics we chose for you, since the program was designed to cater even the most exquisite academic tastes. The school will take place in late March. The locations of the School will be Andrevlje, in an inspiring and colorful landscape of Fruska Gora, and Novi Sad, a nice and lively town, located on the left Danube riverbank. This time of the year will give you an opportunity to enjoy the scenery and impressive image of the Danube River, as well as to participate in quality lectures, and learn new things from your area of expertise. The lectures, panel discussions and workshops will provide a unique blend of international and local expertise, while allowing you to take part in discussions and share knowledge, experience and ideas. The Danube Winter School will include several topics covered by the EU Danube Strategy in order to help the participants to gain insight into the integrated Danube macro-region.

The following preliminary topics will be presented by relevant theorists and practitioners:

  • History of Danube Region
  • Restoration and preservation of the cultural heritage of the Danube Region
  • Underwater archeology
  • Migration and demography in the Danube Region
  • Commercial and economic potential in the Danube Region
  • Solar energy in Vojvodina and in the Danube Region
  • Transport via Danube
  • Sustainable development in the Danube Region
  • Project management in the Danube Region
  • Tourism in the Danube Region
  • Branding and identity of the Danube Region
  • Entrepreneurship in the Danube Region
  • Inclusion of marginalized groups in the Danube Region
  • Projects writing and "fundraising" of the project ideas

Since the time frame of this school is six days, only a brief insight into different thematic areas can be provided. In addition, diverse professional and educational backgrounds of participants will provide inspiring, interesting and productive interaction between participants and lecturers. Networking of the participants will be conducted through various informal thematic evenings, through which participants will have the opportunity to represent the culture, traditions and customs of their country, and to discuss with the other participants about the similarities and differences within the region.

Danube Interregional night is an excellent opportunity to get to know all the participants. You are invited to give a short presentation of your home region/country on the first night of the school. In addition, you will have the opportunity to present your research or project ideas on the last day of the school. This will allow you to present yourself and hear ideas of other participants, which will lead to establishing partnerships and collaborations on different projects.
