Follow up event after Danube International Seminar

Call for participants

Danube Area Research Center (DAReC) is a non-governmental organization, with the main goals to: educate young people interested in the research of Danube region; establish partnerships with the civil society and academic communities; and implement projects. We are pleased to announce the official call for the Danube International Seminar (DIS) designed in partnership with the European Danube Academy, the organizer of Danube Summer School in Ulm (DSS), which was etc. The Danube Summer School 2015 will be the follow up event after the etc.

Danube International Seminar is conducted with the aim to bring together young people of various nationalities and academic backgrounds from the Danube region to attend a diverse, versatile and scholarly program. Through the course of four days, our lecturers will guide you through a variety of topics and themes, which are relevant, interesting and up-to-date. The seminar will take place in the beginning of April in Novi Sad, located on the left Danube river bank, in an inspiring and colorful landscape. This time of the year will give you an opportunity to enjoy the scenery and impressive image of the Danube river, as well as to participate in quality lectures, and learn new things from your area of expertise. The lectures, panel discussions and workshops will provide a unique blend of international and local know-how, while allowing to take part in discussions and share knowledge and ideas. The Danube International Seminar will include several topics covered by the EU Danube Strategy in order to help the participants to gain insight into the integrated Danube macro-region.

Topics

The following preliminary topics will be presented by relevant theorists and practitioners:

  • The Danube region as a macro-region, identity and brand
  • Politics and economy of the Danube Region
  • Security question of the Danube Region
  • History and culture of the Danube Region
  • Danube in the province of Vojvodina
  • Energy and renewable energy sources in the Danube region
  • Affirmation of multiculturalism and tolerance in the Danube region

Since the time frame of this seminar is four days, only a brief insight into different thematic areas can be provided. In addition, diverse professional and educational backgrounds of participants will provide inspiring, interesting and productive interaction between participants and lecturers. Networking of the participants will be conducted through various informal thematic evenings, through which participants will have the opportunity to represent the culture, traditions and customs of their country, discuss similarities etc.

Danube Interregional night is an excellent opportunity to get to know all the participants. You are invited to give a short presentation of your home region/country.

Important information

When: 1-4 April 2015

Target group: the seminar is open for master, PhD students, recent graduates and young professionals from the following Danube region countries - Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine.

Number of participants: 25

Official language: English

Costs: There is no participation fee for the seminar. Accommodation and meals will be covered by DAReC and its sponsors but there are no available funds for the travel costs and health insurance for the time of the seminar, which must be arranged by the selected participants themselves. Otherwise, in case of illness they will need to bear the costs of medical treatment.

The seminar materials will also be provided. Every participant will receive a certificate of attendance. However, you have to attend at least 90% of the lectures according to the programme. The presence will be controlled by the organizers.
